Here are photos of some of the work that was done in the boatyard from January 2008 – May 2009:

Out With The Old
The top three planks on the port side and the top four planks on the starboard side from mid-ships back were replaced.

In With The New
All planking is 1 1/2″ Mahogany.

More Removal
Removal of an old repair, more than likely done on a trip to Chile with previous owners. Planking was pitch pine and several of the fasteners were hard-wood dowels.

Stern Tube & Floor
Yes, that’s Joey standing on the outside of the boat and working on the inside.

Fitting New Planks
All together, 24 new planks were installed as well as 30 sistered frames of double sawn oak.

Cotton Goin' In
We reefed out, re-cottoned and repaid all seams.

New Planks Finished
It was difficult to paint over such beautiful wood.

Pouring Tar In The Bilge
Most of the tar along the starboard side had to be removed along with the garboard. Replacement was warm and smelly, but necessary to create a clean run fore and aft.

Removing Old Cabin Back
Vertical teak slats, which offered no rigidity or waterproofness, were removed.

Cabin Back Gone
This giant hole made the interior seem huge (what a view!), but made the galley feel like a drive-through window at a restaurant.

New Cabin Back In
Surprisingly, this flat plank was one of the most challenging to install. We also raised the companionway to provide more protection against green water.
